Barcelona captain does not have an ‘agreement’ with any club amid uncertain future | OneFootball

Barcelona have triggered the release clause of Joan Garcia and everything is in place for the player to be announced as a new Blaugrana player. An official announcement is even expected in the coming days.

With the deal for the new goalkeeper all but official, it is clear that Garcia will be the team’s first-choice goalkeeper next season ahead of both Wojciech Szczesny and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

While the former is more than happy to accept the backup role, the situation is very different for the club captain who feels hard done by the development.

Barcelona see no need to provide Ter Stegen with any explanations for signing a long-term replacement and have opened the door for the German star to leave.

In recent days, he has even been rumoured to be on the radars of Manchester United, Monaco and Galatasaray with some outlets even reporting an agreement with the Turkish club.

No real development

As relayed in a recent report by Helena Condis, Ter Stegen is absolutely unmoved in his stance and there is no truth to rumours of an agreement with any other club.

He is thus not close to a move to either Manchester United, Monaco or even Galatasaray.

In fact, the journalist relays that he is up for the competition ahead of him and is willing to go down fighting claiming his right for a starting spot under Hansi Flick. Even a contract termination is not an option.

Ter Stegen leaving Catalonia, at this point, thus looks unlikely which is surprising considering the ramifications a lack of playing time could have on his World Cup hopes.

After all, lacking regular playing time may well see competitors move up the pecking order as Germany’s number-one goalkeeper.

The coming weeks will be critical in deciding Ter Stegen’s future, especially with reports stating that he may well be the third choice at the club. As the window progresses, the player will undoubtedly be under more pressure to look for a new club.
