Ronald Araujo is one of many Barcelona players who have already left for international duty this summer.

Upon his arrival at the Uruguayan camp, the defensive star talked about the 2024/25 campaign, admitting that he didn’t have the best of seasons.

Ronald Araujo on injuries and the 2024/25 season

Ronald Araujo’s impact was minimal during Barcelona’s successful 2024/25 campaign, with the defender largely playing a second-fiddle role to Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.

The Uruguayan international admitted that injuries played a key role in thwarting his progress this past season.

“Personally, I don’t think it was a great season, especially because of the injury; it pretty much killed me. I was out for a while,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Araujo, though, was extremely happy with the way Barcelona clinched three titles this past season.

“I’m happy to be here again and happy with all the titles we won this season. I’ve got three titles under my belt,” he said.

However, Araujo extrapolated on his injury situation this season and how it impacted not only his game time but also his confidence.

“Being out of action for so long really messed me up. I always want to play. I’ve always played since I arrived at Barcelona, and when you don’t play, you lose a little confidence,” he said.

Araujo is indeed one of the most highly-rated defenders in La Liga. His progress and continuation, therefore, are integral for Barcelona, especially from an economic perspective.

This is relevant considering the fact that Araujo has been one of the potential sale candidates this summer, with his €1 billion release clause expected to reduce to just €65 million in the first ten days of July.

Araujo, though, hinted that he is not keen on a move elsewhere and is happy at Barcelona, stating, “I’m playing for one of the best clubs in the world and I’m one of the team’s captains.”
