Barcelona sporting director Deco has on Tuesday spoken out on the contract situation of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Frontman Lewandowski is as things stand of course primed to bring a close to his Blaugrana stint in the summer of 2026.
This comes with the Pole’s four-year contract, signed upon his arrival from Bayern Munich, due to expire.
Reports have long suggested that it is highly unlikely that Lewandowski will be offered an extension, ahead of turning 38 next August.
Despite as much, the attacker continues to play a leading role in Hansi Flick’s squad.
Speaking during an interview with Tot Costa (as cited by Mundo Deportivo), this week, the subject of Lewandowski’s expiring deal was in turn put to the aforementioned Deco.
The Portuguese, though, made use of the opportunity to play the subject down, assuring:
“We’re not going to talk about renewals in October. We’re going step by step. He’s one of the best forwards of recent years, a top-level player. He’s helped us a lot. He’s scored more than 40 goals, but we’ll analyze that later. It’s time to talk about recovering injured players.”
