The return to the Spotify Camp Nou has become one of FC Barcelona’s major ongoing sagas.
The team were forced to play their first home game of the season against Valencia last Sunday at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. And, as confirmed earlier today, they will use the same venue in the next match against Getafe.
From the very first day the club announced a date for their return, the Barcelona City Council has insisted that a series of regulations must be met for the stadium to be reopened.
On Tuesday, Barcelona city’s sports councillor, David Escude, reminded the institution led by Joan Laporta that the stadium can only reopen once all safety requirements are fulfilled. There will be no exceptions.
“Like any construction work in this city, a series of regulations must be complied with, and no one can escape a rule that pursues safety, safety and safety,” he said, as quoted by MARCA.
“There is no work, whatever it may be, that can avoid this rule from the architects’ association, the fire service, the police and the architects of Barcelona City Council. They are all pursuing the same thing: safety,” Escude further explained.

The councillor considers it normal that the reopening date has been moved several times, pointing out that with a project of this scale, setbacks are inevitable.
“You have a date in mind, and then a thousand unforeseen things can happen. One must be a little cautious because dates are relative. But I understand that the club want to return home as soon as possible,” Escude remarked.
“It is a very complex project due to its scale and conditions. A very important technical job is being carried out. The key word is safety,” he reiterated.
Five days before Barcelona’s fixture against Getafe, confirmed that they will play the match at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
For now, the plan is for the return to Camp Nou to happen on 28 September, when Barcelona take on Real Sociedad in La Liga.
