Barcelona are aiming to secure the first significant hosting rights for the Spotify Camp Nou since its redevelopment started in 2023. The club hopes to have the Espai Barca project completed by 2028, and if that is the case, they could be set to host European football’s biggest club match the following year.
Over the last few weeks, it has been reported that Barcelona will launch a bid to host the 2028-29 Champions League final, and after receiving approval from the likes of the Barcelona City Council and the Spanish government, they have officially submitted their proposal to UEFA on Wednesday, as per an official statement.
“FC Barcelona, together with Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and with the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as host and co-organising association, has formally submitted to UEFA the bid and complete dossier to apply for hosting the 2029 UEFA Champions League Final.
“The submitted documentation includes all the technical, contractual and institutional requirements demanded by UEFA, as well as the necessary guarantees to demonstrate the organisational capacity of the Spotify Camp Nou and the city of Barcelona to host one of the most important sporting events in the world.
“With the submission of this dossier, the formal bidding process is completed. From this point onwards, UEFA will begin the evaluation phase of the different proposals submitted to determine which venue will be selected to host the 2029 Champions League final.”

Barcelona will find out later this year whether their bid has been successful, with UEFA expected to issue their result in September. It will not be easy for the Spotify Camp Nou to be the victorious party, as England’s iconic stadium Wembley is also believed to have submitted a proposal to host the Champions League final in 2029. For now, it remains to be seen which decision is made.
