The top-most priority of FC Barcelona for this summer transfer window remains the signing of a new center-forward, a signing they need in particular following the departure of Robert Lewandowski at the end of the last season. For this purpose, they have a clear candidate in mind, i.e., the Argentinian striker Julian Alvarez.
The Catalans have already made some moves for this signing, which have proved to be unsuccessful so far. Still, they continue to work on this operation, despite there being a temporary standstill because of the player’s participation in the World Cup.
Despite the initial setbacks and the temporary pause, Barcelona remain fully committed to the operation, and according to Mundo Deportivo, with the player himself also being fully involved in the matter.
The report claims that the best proof of the player’s own involvement in the matter is his resistance to moves to either Paris Saint-Germain or Arsenal, despite him wanting to leave Atletico Madrid this summer. The Mattress Makers are open to the idea of him leaving, but do not want him to join Barcelona, the player’s own desired destination.
The Colchoneros had already reached agreement, first with PSG and then with Arsenal, for Alvarez’s departure, but the forward refused to be a part of either of these deals, as he only wanted to play for the Blaugranes.
This has been a clear indication for the Catalan club that the player is willing to take a stand to join them. However, they believe he would still have to do even more, and unless he makes a public statement about his desire to join them, getting him would remain very difficult.
For now, both Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Julian Alvarez are holding their positions, and it remains to be seen whether there would be significant development in this operation after the World Cup.
