On Thursday afternoon, Barcelona officially filed for an extension to their stay at Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, asking to use the stadium until the 20th of May this year.
This news was announced in a club statement which was shared by Barcelona’s X account.
This throws up questions about when their planned return to Camp Nou will actually happen. The club is still intent on making a return before the end of this season, but this statement throws doubts on this.
The stadium is now free for use as a Rolling Stones tour which was scheduled to make a stop at the venue has now been cancelled.
This news would also appear to confirm that El Clásico against Real Madrid will go ahead at Montjuïc, despite the capacity issues that come with playing in such a stadium.
Barcelona fans are eagerly awaiting their club’s return to their Camp Nou home and will be glad to leave the days of playing in a stadium with a running track behind them.
