Despite their financial problems in the last few years, FC Barcelona have never really compromised on their tradition of remaining abreast of some of the most promising talents emerging throughout the world.

In this regard, one of the young players with whom they have been linked is the Mexican pearl Gilberto Mora, who, despite having turned 17 years of age only yesterday, was a part of his country’s team for the Under-20 World Cup, and was one of the most notable stars in this competition.

Following his impressive campaign, the young midfielder has returned to his club, Tijuana, with a growing reputation as one of the brightest prospects in world football.

Mora has already had a taste of the big stage, having made his senior debut for Mexico during the Gold Cup earlier this year. National team coach Javier Aguirre is reportedly considering him for the next World Cup, which Mexico will co-host.

Capable of playing both as a central midfielder and on the wing, Mora has impressed scouts with his versatility, technical quality, and creativity.

Barcelona see him as a player who could fit perfectly into their long-term project if his development continues on the same trajectory. However, they are not alone in this pursuit. Manchester City, Arsenal, and Real Madrid are also following his progress closely.

According to SPORT, some Madrid-based outlets have pointed out that Mora is a Real Madrid fan. However, the same report notes that personal loyalties rarely influence the final outcome of transfer decisions.

Franco Mastantuono, for instance, grew up supporting Barcelona but went on to join Real Madrid in a €61 million move from River Plate, and he still considers Lionel Messi his idol.

In Mora’s case, what will matter most is his sporting project and professional guidance. His career is managed by Rafaela Pimenta, one of the most influential agents in football and the former partner of the late Mino Raiola. Importantly, Barcelona president Joan Laporta maintains an excellent professional relationship with Pimenta, which could work in the Catalan club’s favor.

For now, the situation remains calm. Mora is in no hurry to decide his future, and given that he cannot move to Europe until he turns 18 in October 2026, Barcelona will have time to improve their financial position before making a concrete offer.

The Blaugrana leadership, led by Laporta and sporting director Deco, will continue to monitor every development surrounding the young midfielder, whose ambidexterity, vision, and goal-scoring instinct make him one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

The race for Gilberto Mora’s signature has only just begun, and Barcelona intend to remain in it until the very end.
