Barcelona could delay opening of the Spotify Camp Nou third tier until 2027 – report | OneFootball

Barcelona could be forced to wait longer than expected before opening the third tier of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, with the club reviewing their construction timeline due to delays in the project.

The Catalan club have been waiting for their home to be renovated for some time now, despite currently playing there with a partial capacity.

According to Cadena SER, Barcelona are considering a revised schedule that could push the opening of the stadium’s third tier into 2027.

Third-tier opening faces delay

The original plan was to open the first section of the third-tier, located along one side of the stadium, in October before gradually bringing the remaining sections into use from January onwards.

However, that timeline has become less realistic.

The latest projections now point to the third tier opening between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter of 2027, placing the expected date somewhere between February and April.

Despite that adjustment, the report adds that Barcelona still expect the stadium to reach its full planned capacity of 105,000 spectators before the end of the 2026-27 season.

Matchday revenue could be affected

Spotify Camp Nou currently accommodates around 62,000 fans, meaning the delay would temporarily limit the club’s ability to maximise matchday income.

A fully operational stadium is expected to provide a significant financial boost through ticket sales, hospitality and other stadium-related revenue streams.

Subsequently, any delay would see the financial benefits delayed as well, as the club continue to navigate a precarious situation.

One factor behind the slower progress has been the inability to introduce a third construction shift because of local regulations designed to protect residents living near the stadium in the Les Corts district.

Barcelona are already planning to begin the 2027-28 season at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic while work is carried out on installing the Camp Nou roof.

This means that, temporarily, the club will be back in a venue where the capacity is around just 50,000 spectators.

There have been delays in this project since the day the renovation began, as Barça try to navigate multiple factors holding up the project.

While supporters naturally want the stadium completed as soon as possible, the most significant takeaway is that Barcelona’s target of having all 105,000 seats available before the end of the 2026-27 campaign remains unchanged.

However, with regard to the Camp Nou project, no deadline is set in stone until it actually happens, and supporters will have to be cautious with their expectations about the new stadium.
