Time is passing, but Julian Alvarez’s situation remains unchanged. The Argentine striker still dreams of joining FC Barcelona, although he has yet to make another move that could force the issue.

Meanwhile, Barça continue to view him as their top target to strengthen the No. 9 position.

As such, the coming days are expected to be crucial. Alvarez is due to report back to Atletico Madrid for pre-season training in a week and has already received his personalized fitness program to prepare for his return.

As already reported today, Alvarez’s agents are expected to travel to Barcelona this week to meet with the club.

One of the key topics expected to be discussed during the meetings with the representatives is how to move the deal forward.

Barcelona could raise their offer

And, according to reports relayed by SPORT, Barcelona are considering increasing their initial offer for the striker.

The club’s first formal proposal was worth around €100 million guaranteed, but the new plan under discussion could see that figure rise to €115 million, an increase of €15 million that would underline their determination to sign the Argentine.

However, despite those claims, Barcelona continue to insist publicly that they have no intention of increasing their offer.

The club’s position is that any improved bid would only be considered if Atletico Madrid abandon their current refusal to negotiate and enter genuine discussions, something that has not happened so far.

Indeed, Atletico Madrid continue to maintain their hard-line stance, referring interested clubs only to the Argentine international’s €500 million release clause and showing no willingness to negotiate a transfer.

That position remains the biggest obstacle to Barcelona’s pursuit.

Alternatives exist, but Alvarez remains the priority

Barcelona’s contingency plans have also become more limited following Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi’s injury.

Other strikers remain under consideration, such as Fisnik Asllani, but he is close to joining RB Leipzig. Dusan Vlahovic’s name also remains on the table, but he is not viewed internally as being on the same level of priority.

For Barcelona, Alvarez remains the clear first choice to lead the attack, and the next few days could prove decisive in determining whether the club can finally break the deadlock.
