La Liga champions Barcelona have been dealt something of a blow on the stadium front, ahead of their upcoming showdown with Paris Saint-Germain.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Tuesday provided the latest on the situation.
Barcelona are of course primed to kick their European campaign into gear later this week, in a Champions League meeting with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
From here, things will then head back to Catalunya’s capital, for the Blaugrana’s home opener against PSG.
The hope, until now, was that as much would be played at the newly-renovated Spotify Camp Nou.
If the latest word stemming from the Spanish media on Tuesday is anything to go by, however, then as much now appears to have been all but ruled out.
As per a report from MD, UEFA have set out guidelines that for the Camp Nou to be eligible to host fixtures on the continent, a minimum crowd capacity of 45,000 is required.
With the Spanish champions currently able to guarantee only 27,000, it is in turn concluded that:
‘Club sources almost take it for granted that the match against Luis Enrique ‘s team will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.’
