Barcelona decide against move for Serie A star who will sign a two-year renewal | OneFootball

With FC Barcelona in the market for reinforcements at centre-forward in the summer transfer window, several names have been touted as potential targets.

One such name happened to be Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, whose contract with the Serie A giants expires at the end of the season.

Given his contract situation, a move to Barça was speculated, with the Serbian national team fitness coach, Dusan Ilic, even claiming that the striker was headed to Catalonia.

No Barcelona move for Vlahovic

However, as per the latest update from SPORT, Vlahovic will not be the forward who strengthens Barcelona’s attack.

The Blaugrana initially evaluated a move for the Serbian as a potential market opportunity, as he was approaching the end of his contract.

However, Barcelona decided weeks ago to reject the Juventus striker, which has prompted Vlahovic and his entourage to begin negotiations to renew his contract with Juventus, while also ruling out a move to the Premier League.

Talks are already well advanced, and the player could extend his contract for two additional seasons, accepting a significant salary reduction as requested by the Italian club in order to keep him in the squad.

Barcelona had been attentive to Vlahovic’s development for some time. During the period when Xavi Hernandez was the team’s head coach, there were even contacts with the player. However, the situation has changed considerably since then.

The Serbian’s performances in recent seasons have been relatively modest, and this campaign, he has also been affected by a significant muscle injury.

In addition, his traditional penalty-box striker profile does not fully match what Barcelona are currently seeking, which led the club to prioritise other alternatives.

Vlahovic had made it clear that his preference was to play for Barcelona, a gesture that is always appreciated at the Spotify Camp Nou. Nevertheless, the club’s sporting needs did not align with the operation.
