Como have registered their interest in numerous Barcelona players during the winter transfer window, although they have yet to have any success. Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati had both been bought with the Serie A big-spenders, and it turns out that they were also plotting a move for another one of Hansi Flick’s players.
Despite having been tipped as another talented La Masia star, Hector Fort has struggled to make the same impact on the Barcelona first team as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi or Hector Fort. He has struggled for playing time this season, so it would have been no surprise to see an exit being sought.
One could have come his way from Como, as reports from El club de la mitjanit have stated that Como presented an offer to Fort, although he turned it down as he does not want to leave Barcelona.
Fort has been firmly second-choice at right-back behind Jules Kounde, and amid reports that Barcelona want to sign a new top-level player in the position during the summer, it would surely mean that his prominence drops further. He can also play at left-back, but Gerard Martin, who recently signed a new contract, has been used frequently as cover for Alejandro Balde over him.
Fort’s situation has been a strange one, as he has never looked out of place when called upon by Flick. However, the fact that Jules Kounde has not been injured has also contributed to the youngster’s struggle for minutes, and the right-back position has seen very little rotation over the course of the season.
It could be that a departure is sought for Fort in the summer, whether that be a loan or a permanent exit. Barcelona would be wise to at least retain some control over his future if they do seek a sale, as he has the potential to be a very good player.
