Barcelona defensive prodigy poised to start against Getafe | OneFootball

Following wins over Valencia and Newcastle United, Barcelona will look to continue their winning momentum as they take on Getafe at home this weekend.

However, given the recent run of congested fixtures, Hansi Flick might want to make a few rotations to his squad. And one of the beneficiaries could be Jofre Torrents.

A great opportunity for Torrents

With Alejandro Balde sidelined due to an injury, Flick has been largely playing Gerard Martin in the left-back position.

Martin, though, has started Barcelona’s last two matches and keeping that in mind, Flick might want to switch things around this weekend.

According to AS, Torrents could be poised to start instead of Martin in the left-back spot against Getafe.

Regarded as one of La Masia‘s best defensive talents right now, Torrents was a part of Barcelona’s pre-season camp and trained with the squad many times in the recent past.

Torrents has already featured twice in La Liga this season, including in the recent win over Valencia. But he is yet to start for Barcelona.

That might change this weekend against Getafe. It could be an excellent opportunity for the young Spaniard to showcase his potential at the highest level of football.

While Martin has not been bad for Barcelona, he has yet to showcase the kind of potential that Balde has.

Keeping that in mind, Torrents has a great chance to overtake Martin in the pecking order, especially if he can make a solid impression against Getafe.

Aged just 18, Torrents has great technical ability and could be extremely useful in Barcelona’s build-up play from the back, which has been a concern since the departure of Inigo Martinez.

As a left-back, Torrents can lend extra support to the left-sided centre-back, which in turn, could be a great positive for Barcelona, especially against a side like Getafe.
