Barcelona have bid goodbye to a number of players from their reserve team, Barça Atletic, this summer following their relegation to the fourth-tier of Spain.
More exits are expected in the coming days and one of the players to leave next appears to be defender David Oduro.
Indeed, according to Africa Foot (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Girona have taken a keen interest in Oduro’s potential and have initiated contact with Barcelona to explore a deal.
However, the report suggests that Barcelona are not keen on a permanent transfer and would prefer a loan move in order to retain control over the player’s future.
Oduro, 19, joined Barcelona last summer from Accra Lions. However, the Ghanaian left-back played only ten times for Barça Atletic throughout the campaign.
Following Barça Atletic’s relegation to Segunda RFEF, Oduro’s representatives are actively seeking a new destination with greater sporting ambition.
Girona currently do not have a fit left-back in their squad due to Miguel Gutierrez’s ankle injury, which is expected to sideline him for six to eight weeks.
If a deal with Girona does not materialise, Oduro may still look for another club at a higher competitive level where he can secure more playing time.
Oduro is under contract with Barcelona until 2027. His departure would not be seen as a major setback for the reserve team, which already has Jofre Torrents, Alexander Walton, and a returning Edu Sanchez available to cover the left-back position.
