FC Barcelona have not been in the best financial shape in recent times and continue to explore every possible avenue to stabilize the club for a more secure future.

Among the various measures under consideration by President Joan Laporta is the idea of arranging a mid-season friendly match after the final La Liga fixture of 2025 in order to generate additional revenue.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan giants currently have two potential destinations on the table: Morocco and Peru. Both nations are interested in hosting the decorated Spanish club, but Morocco has emerged as the more likely venue at this stage.

The friendly is expected to take place after Barcelona’s match against Villarreal in late December, which notably was the same fixture originally scheduled to be held in Miami.

From a logistical point of view, Morocco is seen as the more practical option. The proximity of the North African country would allow the team to complete the trip in less than 24 hours, travelling in the morning and returning to Barcelona the same night.

In contrast, the long flight to Peru would significantly extend travel time and interfere with the players’ mandated holiday period, which is tightly regulated by the AFE agreement. With Barcelona scheduled to face Espanyol on the first weekend of January 2026, the club must ensure that players receive the necessary rest days before competitive action resumes.

Considering the number of injuries the team has suffered this season, Hansi Flick will be cautious about any travel plans that could add to the squad’s fatigue. A short trip to Morocco would therefore be a far more suitable compromise between financial benefit and player welfare.

Even so, Barcelona remain intent on completing both the Moroccan and Peruvian friendlies at some point, as they provide valuable income opportunities. The Peruvian fixture, which carries an appearance fee estimated between seven and eight million euros, could be scheduled later in 2026 if it does not fit into this year’s calendar.

For now, all signs point towards Morocco as the preferred destination for the December friendly, as the club continues to balance sporting priorities with its economic recovery.
