According to a report from Fichajes, Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has emerged as one of the names on Barcelona’s list of potential defensive reinforcements, although the Blaugrana face considerable competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.
The 25-year-old left-footed centre-back has reportedly expressed his desire to take the next step in his career and join a more ambitious project, sparking strong interest from top European clubs.
Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Schlotterbeck’s situation, with each club pursuing different strategies to secure his signature.
Borussia Dortmund, on their part, are aware that keeping the player will not be easy, as he believes his time at the club has run its course and now wants to challenge himself at a higher level.
For now, Bayern Munich appear to be in pole position. The Bavarian giants are looking to rebuild their defensive structure after several inconsistencies last season, and Schlotterbeck fits perfectly into their long-term plans.
Those within the club’s hierarchy believe the player’s composure on the ball, tactical awareness, and physical strength make him an ideal addition.

Moreover, the German international would reportedly not hesitate to make the move from Dortmund to Munich, knowing it could bring him closer to major trophies.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are also following Schlotterbeck’s progress with great interest. Hansi Flick, familiar with the defender, views him as an ideal fit for the Blaugrana backline.
The Catalan club is keen to add a strong left-footed defender to bring balance and depth to their defence, especially after a season marked by injuries and inconsistency.
However, Barcelona face a significant obstacle in the form of financial competition. Bayern are in a stronger economic position and can easily offer higher wages and a larger transfer fee.
Despite this, Barça believe that their footballing philosophy, international prestige, and the appeal of La Liga could still persuade Schlotterbeck to choose them.
