FC Barcelona are within touching distance of completing their first transfer for the upcoming summer transfer window, as they have already paid the release clause of the goalkeeper Joan Garcia, and now only need to complete the final few steps before completing this signing.
However, even after this operation, the Blaugrana sporting offices will still remain highly busy for the upcoming few months as the Catalans are also looking to add a new left winger to their team.
Seemingly, Barcelona have already identified their preferred candidate for this purpose, i.e., Nico Williams, with whose agent Deco recently met and with whom the Blaugrana club has already reached a pre-agreement, according to some reports.
Meanwhile, the Catalan club also has enough cash in hand to pay the player’s €58 million release clause and the involved taxes, which would take their full cost in this regard to €64 million.
However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Catalans are still going to face several barriers as they continue to pursue him, and the most significant of these barriers is that of Financial Fair Play.
Before Barcelona can register Nico after signing him, they will have to make significant reductions in their wage bill. One of their players, Ansu Fati, is quite close to leaving for Monaco, but his departure alone would not be enough, and the Blaugranes will have to ensure other exits as well.
For now, they are not considering the sales of players who are an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans, including the likes of Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, or Raphinha.
Thus, there are very few options left whose sales would result in a significant income for the Catalans. Marc-Andre ter Stegen would be a good option for a sale, but he is not thinking about a departure for now, while Ronald Araujo, whose release clause will fall to €60 million between 1st and 15th July, can also be an option for a sale.
Thus, despite having met with significant success in the pursuit of Nico Williams, Barcelona still need to do a lot of work to finalize his signing this summer.
