While FC Barcelona remain entangled in what is expected to remain one of the most dramatic transfer operations of this summer, i.e., signing Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid, some other surprising transfers have already taken place in the market.
One such move was the La Masia-trained Marc Cucurella joining Real Madrid. This transfer would have been particularly a hit for the Blagranes as they themselves were being linked with the Spaniard, especially in case Alejandro Balde left this summer.
However, the former Chelsea fullback is now a Merengue player for all intents and purposes. That’s not the case only in a formal sense, as Cucurella recently appeared in an interview, and several of his responses showed his affection for the Blaugranes’ archrivals. As SPORT has noted, some of his comments in this interview, with El Chiringuito, have not entertained Barcelona fans too much.
For instance, despite being linked also with the Catalan club, the fullback made it clear that the pull of Real Madrid made it impossible for him to ignore that move:
“It all happened very quickly, and it was a very easy decision to make. When a club like Real Madrid comes calling, with all the history it has, it’s a privilege as a player to have an opportunity like that.”
He also revealed the role of Jose Mourinho, a figure who is not too well-liked among the Barcelona fans, in his transfer:
“Mourinho messaged me first and told me he would call. He explained what he wanted from me and told me to be convinced about joining them. I found him very approachable, and working with him I can learn a lot. It’s a great honor.”
Meanwhile, he also made it clear that he dreams of winning the UCL with the Merengues, a trophy that is a publicly-stated objective of the Blaugrana team for the next season:
“My dream with Real Madrid is to win the Champions League. That’s what excites me the most.”
However, one comment that would have particularly incensed the azulgrana faithful came when the host asked him to choose between two alternatives, waking up bald or having a Barcelona crest tattooed on his chest, to which he replied:
“I’d rather wake up bald.”
