There has been no shortage of difficult decisions when it comes to FC Barcelona. In fact, the Catalan club managed to temporarily register both Dani Olmo and Pau Victor quite recently. However, the amount of effort that took out of Barcelona made it something that was far from a straightforward task.
Yet, that is far from being the only worries that the club has in this ongoing January transfer window. Beyond the registration issues, there was also the massive problem and uncertainty of Ronald Araujo’s continuity at the club, with some sources suggesting he could even leave this month.
Ultimately, however, Barcelona managed to sort that problem out as well and it now looks probable that the Uruguayan defender will end up signing a contract extension. On the other hand, however, there is one player that the club seems to be pushing out themselves.
As highlighted by SPORT, 22-year-old Spanish forward Ansu Fati has been excluded from the official squad list for the upcoming La Liga encounter against Getafe. A fourth consecutive omission for the player, it seems to make it clear enough that he is not currently in Hansi Flick’s plans.
Previously, the coach himself revealed that he wanted to be honest with each of his players, and that included Ansu Fati. Since the start of 2025, the only action that the young Spaniard has seen on the pitch were 30 minutes against UD Barbastro in the Copa del Rey, and those too when the game was already 4-0 in Barça’s favor.
In Saudi Arabia, when Barcelona travelled for the Spanish Super Cup, Fati was in the original travelling squad but was left out of both final squads for the semi-final against Athletic Club as well as the final against Real Madrid. As if that was not enough of an indication, he was also excluded from the latest squad list for the Copa del Rey game against Real Betis.
Now, everything points towards an imminent exit for the player and it would be best if the club could start looking at alternatives as soon as possible. With only two weeks left before the end of the ongoing transfer window, Barcelona and Fati do not have a lot of time to finalize what to do about his future.
