Jonathan David of LOSC Lille is one of the soon-to-be free agents that Barcelona are keeping tabs on heading into 2025.
The Canadian international’s contract with Les Dogues expires at the end of the season and he has been widely tipped to leave the club as a free agent.
Barça, who are looking for reliable cover and competition for Robert Lewandowski in the No.9 position, have been credited with an interest in David, although their pursuit of the Ligue 1 forward has somewhat cooled off of late.
Meanwhile, other clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and more recently Bayern Munich have also joined the race for David’s signing, while Lille are also hoping to convince him to stay.
Amidst all the speculation surrounding his future, David granted an interview to La Voix du Nord (h/t SPORT), in which he did not rule out the possibility of renewing his contract with Lille and continuing in Ligue 1.

“As the president has stated on several occasions, there are negotiations. We are talking, but no decision has been made yet. We are still talking, and the door is never closed. It’s 50-50,” said the Canadian international.
David, with his statement, has hinted that a contract renewal with Lille is pretty much still on the table despite previous rumours suggesting that he would be leaving in the summer.
As far as Barcelona are concerned, as mentioned earlier, they have seemingly cooled off their interest in David of late, as he is not seen as a good-enough fit stylistically in Hansi Flick’s team.
The Catalans, however, remain on the lookout for new centre-forwards, with names ranging from Viktor Gyokeres to Alexander Isak being linked.
