La Liga champions Barcelona saw the signing of Chelsea star João Pedro as a serious possibility earlier this summer. That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.

Frontman Pedro was for his part loosely tipped to take his talents to Catalunya’s capital following the opening of the transfer window. Amid their ongoing search for reinforcements up top, the Brazilian was labelled as one option to have been taken into consideration by the Barcelona board.

In the end, however, Deco and co. opted against pulling the trigger on an offer for Pedro, who has since agreed to the terms of a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

So, why exactly did the Camp Nou brass make this call? As alluded to above, an explanation for as much has this week surfaced in the Spanish media.

The info comes courtesy of Sport, who report that:

‘Barça had a real chance to sign Chelsea’s number 9 in June, but prioritised the incorporation of Anthony Gordon and opted for the Julián Álvarez operation.’

Pedro, it is added, was nothing short of ‘crazy’ to link up with Hansi Flick’s squad, left disappointed by the eventual outcome of the saga.
