It is no secret that FC Barcelona are gunning for the signing of a new left-sided centre-back in the summer transfer window.
It is also well-established at this point that Alessandro Bastoni has emerged as their preferred target to bolster the position, as they look to fully fill the void left by Inigo Martinez’s departure last summer.
Now, according to Carlos Monfort of SPORT, Barcelona have ‘practically reached’ an agreement over personal terms with Bastoni. What now remains is for them to strike a deal with Inter Milan for his signing.
This comes after reports in Italy earlier this week had suggested that a preliminary agreement over a five-year deal until 2031 had been settled between the Blaugrana and the defender.
In recent months, different profiles have also been assessed to strengthen the centre of defence in order to have alternative plans in place.

Despite this, there is a clear preference, as sporting director Deco has long been a strong advocate of Bastoni.
And, now, Barcelona seemingly have a near-complete agreement on personal terms with the 27-year-old Italian international. The main obstacle remains reaching an understanding with Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri are expected to demand a sum of around €70 million at least for Bastoni, although Barcelona will try to lower that figure by offering players as part of the deal.
The names of young talents like Hector Fort and Aron Yaakobishvili have been floated as potential makeweights in the operation.
For now, what is important is that Bastoni is intent on joining Barcelona and has pretty much agreed terms with the club.
