The former footballer Eric Abidal has had a very significant career with FC Barcelona, as he first remained a part of one of the most successful Blaugrana teams in history, and then also served as the Sporting Director of the Catalan club.
Although he has been away from the Catalan club for the last few years, he frequently comments on some of the matters affecting the club and also participates with the Barça Legends. However, lately, he has been a center of attention on social media, but for a peculiar matter.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the former defender was forced to deny the rumors of his alleged death. Recently, some posts on X had claimed that Abidal had passed away, because of complications that arose from his second liver transplant.

It needs to be noted here that the former Barcelona player has been battling liver cancer since 2011, but since his liver transplant in 2015, he has been leading quite a normal life. Thus, he took to social media to refute any rumors of his death, and left the following message:
“Some rumors should never exist. I am here, with my family, and well. Respect is key. Just to clarify – I am fine, alive, and healthy. Thank you for your support. Let’s focus on what really matters. Thank you for your messages of concern.”
Between 2018 and 2020, Eric Abidal served as the Sporting Director of Barcelona and helped the club sign many notable players, including Frenkie de Jong. He currently works as the Sporting Director of Al-Wasl in the United Arab Emirates.
Barcelona fans have expressed relief at the news and continue to wish him health and success in his professional and personal life.
