Few players understand the psychological edge Real Madrid carry in the Champions League.

Among them is former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who has witnessed Madrid’s European dominance up close over the years.

He recently shared his thoughts on their upcoming quarter-final clash against Bayern Munich, and his comments have quickly gone viral.

Admitting Real Madrid’s winning mentality

Speaking during a live stream with popular content creator DjMaRiiO (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Pique was asked about Madrid’s chances against a Bayern side that many consider favourites based on their strong season so far.

While the German giants have impressed with consistency and results, Pique was highlighted that facing Real Madrid in Europe is a completely different challenge.

Explaining what makes Madrid so dangerous at this stage, Pique delivered a statement that has since taken social media by storm.

“You know what’s up, man? Madrid has switched into this mode – the ‘I don’t even know what I’m playing for, but I’m winning’ mode.”

Despite Bayern Munich’s impressive campaign, including finishing near the top of their group with 21 points out of a possible 24, Pique remains cautious about writing off Madrid.

Their European pedigree, combined with their resilience in high-pressure situations, makes them a constant threat.

Analysing Real Madrid’s performance

Pique also reflected on Madrid’s recent performances in the competition, particularly their tie against Manchester City.

“I didn’t see the first leg, but I did see the second leg against City.

“If it weren’t for the red card, all eleven of you would have been hanging off the crossbar, and you would have qualified.”

Interestingly, despite acknowledging Real Madrid “is in a position to win the Champions League,” Pique ultimately leans towards Bayern Munich progressing from the tie.
