Barcelona are in the market for a new striker, but so far, their pursuit of Robert Lewandowski’s replacement has been without success. Julian Alvarez is their top target, but given Atletico Madrid’s hard-line stance on a possible transfer, they have been forced to think about alternative options.
The likes of Joao Pedro and Harry Kane have been credited as Plan B targets, although in the case of the latter, a move has been ruled out for this summer. Barcelona’s list of options does appear to be waning, which is why they have considered to look towards other players that could be good enough to replace Lewandowski.
One of those is Benjamin Sesko, whom Barcelona had on their list in prior to his Manchester United move last summer. As per CaughtOffside, they have rekindled their interest in the Slovenian striker, who had a difficult first season in the Premier League.
At 23, Sesko would be a player that can lead the Barcelona line for many years to come alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal and Anthony Gordon, but the problem that the Catalans face is that Man United have absolutely no plans to sell this summer. Michael Carrick, who was permanently appointed at Old Trafford a few weeks ago, sees the former RB Leipzig man as one of his key players for the present and future, and thus, no approaches will be considered.
It’s not a surprise that Man United do not Sesko to leave, but it is another problem that Barcelona have to deal with. Their list of striker options is getting smaller, so if they fail to land Alvarez, it will be extremely difficult to secure the services of an acceptable alternatives. The pressure is on sporting director Deco to get the Atleti man in the door.
