Barcelona identify two proven centre-backs as possible summer reinforcements

Although the signing of an attacker has been the highest priority of FC Barcelona this summer, the Blaugranes are also open to bring reinforcements to other areas of the team. For instance, for the defense, they are negotiating with Al-Hilal for Joao Cancelo, and are also keeping some centre-back options in mind.

With Gerard Martin’s emergence as a reliable centre-back last season, the Catalans do not believe this area requires any immediate signing. However, this can change if one of their current players ends up leaving.

Seemingly, Barcelona are already prepared for such a possibility, as SPORT reports that there are two centre-backs linked with them in recent days, namely, Cuti Romero and Aymeric Laporte. Both of these defenders would be affordable for the Blaugrana club, especially if they sell one of their current centre-backs.

Aymeric Laporte has been having a great World Cup, during which, among other things, he has also shown a very good chemistry with Pau Cubarsi. He could be a figure similar to Inigo Martinez for the Catalans. His high wages and contract with Athletic Club that runs till 2028, can make his signing difficult, especially as the Basque side paid €10 million to get him back from Saudi Arabia.

The other option is Cuti Romero, about whom Fabrizio Romano recently reported that he is prepared to force a move away from Tottenham, as he does not want to play in the Premier League any longer, and wants to play in La Liga. He has been linked with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, but his price could be a problem, as Spurs are expected to not let him leave for less than €50 million.
