Barcelona are still looking to strengthen their attacking options after signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
They are interested in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but their first offer was rejected.
Mundo Deportivo claims they are in talks with Jan Virgili’s representatives over a return to the club. Virgili left the La Liga defending champions for Real Mallorca last summer.
The Spanish youth international has a €12 million release clause in his contract following Mallorca’s relegation to the second division.
However, Barcelona can secure a deal for €7.2m, as they still retain 40 percent of his economic rights.
Virgili is on the radar of several clubs despite his struggles towards the end of last season.
He was a mainstay in the starting line-up until the arrival of manager Martin Demichelis in February. He made just two starts in the last 10 league games.
Virgili featured in 31 league games, chipping in with two goals and six assists, a remarkable return for the teenager in his first season in the top flight.
The 19-year-old averaged 1.6 successful dribbles per game, more than Barcelona star Raphinha and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo. He also created seven big chances, the same as Vinicius Junior.
While the Spanish left-winger impressed in his first season in the top flight, a return to Barcelona could hamper his development. Barcelona have enough options on the left wing.
Barcelona should focus on signing a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski and bolstering their defensive options, rather than stepping up their pursuit of Virgili.
