Few players understand the identity of Barcelona quite like Ivan Rakitic.
A key figure in one of the club’s most successful eras, the Croatian midfielder remains closely connected to the club still.
Speaking about his connection with Barcelona in an interview with AS, Rakitic made it clear that his attachment has not faded with time.
“Well, yeah, [I watch them] a lot. I’m also a La Liga ambassador. And of course, I’m really into my Sevilla and Barça.”
The conversation naturally shifted towards Barcelona’s current resurgence, particularly the emergence of exciting young talents like Lamine Yamal.
However, Rakitic was quick to point out that the club’s strength goes far beyond individual brilliance.
“It’s not just him. It’s everything in general. I think if we look at each position, there’s a future for growth right now.
“Barça can put together a starting lineup with their homegrown players. They’re young—I don’t know if any of them are over 22 or 23. It’s amazing. That’s happiness. That, in the end, is Barça.
“That’s where you see how important the academy, La Masia, is, and all the coaches working behind the scenes—you really don’t know how important they are.

“With them, a kid who goes to Barcelona at nine, ten, or eleven has the plan that by 18 or 19, he could end up on the first team. That’s happening.”
Rakitic, himself a midfielder who thrived in Barcelona’s system, also reflected on the current crop of players in similar roles.
“It’s amazing, isn’t it? We have to enjoy it and hope the kids keep going in that direction, and never forget that all this happens very quickly and that you have to give it your all because it’s Barça.”
While the excitement around the squad is undeniable, the Croatian urged caution when discussing Barcelona’s chances in the Champions League.
“Based on last year’s experience, we shouldn’t look too far ahead. A year ago, we all saw Barça in the final and thought it was a two-horse race between PSG and Barça… and it didn’t turn out that way.
“We have to work hard in every game and give it our all. Hopefully, we can learn from the small mistakes of last season.
“They’re surely ready, but they have to prove it.”
Finally, he looked back on his own unforgettable Champions League triumph with Barcelona, a moment that still defines his legacy at the club.
“It was really special. What makes me sad is that Barça hasn’t won it since then. But yes, it’s a moment you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
“It’s incredible. No one can ever take that away from you. Years may pass, but that memory stays with you,” he concluded.
