Barcelona lose highly rated youngster to Porto | OneFootball

In addition to bringing in new players like Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi to reinforce the first team’s attack, FC Barcelona have once again signed some promising youngsters as well, who are expected to slowly make their way to the first team. Two such signings they have made in this summer transfer window include Hamza Abdelkarim and Josue Caicedo.

Meanwhile, there were several other young gems that were linked with the Catalan club as well, including the Spanish fullback Jorge Salinas. The Blaugranes were quite close to signing him, but a disagreement with Racing Club about his release clause caused this move to break down.

Another youngster whom they have been monitoring for some time now is the Portuguese forward Cardoso Varela. However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the chances of signing him have completely evaporated for Barcelona, as he has already joined Porto, even though some previous reports claimed he had a future agreement in place with the Catalan side.

Despite being linked with him for some months now, his signing proved to be complicated for the Blaugranes. The main problem was the way he departed from Porto, after having trained in their youth ranks, to join Dinamo Zagreb. When he left the Portuguese club, Porto believed the transfer to be fraudulent, and they accused the player of using the Croatian club to advance his career.

Porto even considered legal action against Varela, but ultimately, the two parties seem to have patched up, as the youngster has rejoined the Portuguese club. Porto did not pay any transfer fee for him this time, but Zagreb retain 50% of the player’s rights.

Cardoso Varela had recently parted way with the agent Andy Bara to sign with Pini Zahavi, who also represents Hansi Flick, and has very good relations with Barcelona. This could have facilitated a move to the Blaugrana club, but this did not turn out to be the case, as he has already been presented as a new Porto player.
