FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has seen his prominence in the team decline in the ongoing season.

The 22-year-old La Masia graduate, contracted until 2028, has fallen behind Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, and Gavi in the pecking order in midfield.

In fact, there have even been occasions when Hansi Flick has utilised Dani Olmo in a deeper role ahead of Casado, giving an indication of his current standing within the squad.

Casado wanted in Saudi Arabia and England

Now, SPORT reports that Casado has emerged as a target for several clubs in the Saudi Pro League, as his prominence at Barcelona has declined.

The academy graduate is viewed as a market opportunity due to his potential and current situation within the squad.

While lucrative offers are expected from Saudi Arabia, the midfielder is also attracting attention in Europe, particularly from the Premier League, where Chelsea previously inquired about him.

The primary routes currently lead to Al Ahli and Al Nassr, where former Barça defender Inigo Martinez is playing. Both clubs are seeking a defensive midfielder and have identified Casado as a priority target.

Al Ahli are planning to replace former Barcelona player Franck Kessie, who is expected to return to Europe after his contract expires on 30 June.

Meanwhile, Al Nassr are looking for a successor to Marcelo Brozovic, who, at 33, is considering ending his career in Croatia.

A third option in Saudi Arabia could involve Al Hilal, the club that still owns Joao Cancelo, currently on loan at Barcelona. The Middle Eastern side are seeking either a transfer fee of around €15 million for the full-back or a deal involving a player plus cash.

Given that Mendes represents both players, Casado could become part of such a negotiation, although Barcelona are reluctant to pursue this route.

Another Saudi club, Al Ittihad, are also in the market for a defensive midfielder. Their sporting structure includes former Barcelona director Ramon Planes, and they may look to reinforce the position following the departure of N’Golo Kante and the expiry of Fabinho’s contract.

However, they have not yet made a move for Casado. In addition to Saudi interest, Mendes has received enquiries from Premier League and Italian clubs, and Atletico Madrid could also revive their interest.

Casado’s future will ultimately depend on his own decision, as Barcelona are open to allowing him to leave if he seeks more playing time.
