According to a fresh update from SPORT, Barcelona are likely to miss out on a much-needed financial boost after Francisco Trincao decided to remain at Sporting Lisbon this summer.
The winger, once viewed as a potential Premier League-bound asset, has opted for stability in Portugal, dashing Barça’s hopes of cashing in on their 50% share of any future capital gain from his transfer.
Trincao has been the subject of interest from multiple Premier League clubs, with reported offers north of €40 million. These deals, heavily monitored by Barcelona, would have yielded a significant financial gain for the Catalan club.
As part of the deal that saw Trincao leave Barça for Sporting, the Blaugrana retained 50% of any future profit on his sale.
Given the offers on the table, Barcelona could have banked well over €20 million, a sum that would have gone a long way in easing their financial fair play struggles.
Despite the buzz surrounding a possible move, Trincao has agreed to stay in Lisbon and sign a long-term contract extension until 2030.

This came after a recent meeting between his agent, Jorge Mendes, and the Sporting board, where terms were reached for a substantial wage increase and an expanded role within the team.
The club, fresh off a Portuguese League title, sees Trincao as a key figure in their ambitions, especially with Viktor Gyokeres expected to depart.
For Barcelona, the outcome is disappointing. At a time when the club is actively seeking revenue sources and managing tight salary caps, the potential sale of Trincao was viewed as an easy win.
A sale worth more than €40 million would have meant a sizable windfall, crucial for squad reinforcements or balancing the books for La Liga compliance.
However, with Trincao now set to stay and commit his long-term future to Sporting, Barcelona must look elsewhere for financial relief.
