Martin Zubimendi was a top target for FC Barcelona after they lost Sergio Busquets back in 2023.

However, with time, the interest in the Real Sociedad star has faded, especially with Hansi Flick unearthing Marc Bernal and Marc Casado this season.

Meanwhile, Zubimendi, who has gone from strength to strength at the Basque club, is now attracting interest from several other big clubs across Europe.

Barcelona still interested

However, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona are still monitoring the situation of Martin Zubimendi at Real Sociedad.

This development comes amidst Arsenal’s strong push to sign the Spanish international in the summer of 2025. The Gunners are not the only club eyeing the midfielder, though, with Liverpool also keeping tabs on him.

Moreover, Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid are also admirers of the 25-year-old midfielder while Bayern Munich are also tracking him.

Barça might enter the market for a new midfielder in the summer, especially with Frenkie de Jong’s future far from certain.

Joshua Kimmich, whose contract at Bayern expires at the end of the season, had been touted as a target but the latest reports suggest that the Blaugrana have dropped out of the race for the German.

Zubimendi, thus, could be an option, although Barcelona would have to shell out a transfer fee of €60 million – his release clause amount – to sign him, given that Real Sociedad are uninterested in negotiating a lower fee.

There is nothing concrete at this point, with Barcelona only said to be monitoring his situation.

If anything, it is Arsenal who are pushing hard to sign Zubimendi in the summer, but with the player on the radars of so many top clubs, it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
