At this stage of proceedings, it would be a major surprise if Rodri was a Manchester City player for the 2026-27 season. Rodri has entered the final 12 months of his current contract and it is highly unlikely that he will sign a contract extension with City. Barcelona are now the front-runners to sign the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder. Manchester City’s asking price for Rodri has been revealed and Barcelona’s opening offer to sign him has been rejected by Manchester City. Barcelona will have to get serious if they are to sign a player who has become one of the premier midfielders in world football at Manchester City.

Barcelona have seen their opening bid for Rodri rejected by Manchester City.

David Ornstein, Pol Ballús, and Sam Lee have reported for The Athletic that Barcelona have submitted an offer of €45 million plus add-ons to Manchester City to sign Rodri. Furthermore, it is reported that Barcelona’s offer has been deemed as inadequate by Manchester City. City’s stance is that an offer of up to €80 million would be considered to sell Rodri this summer.

Simon Bajkowski has reported for the Manchester Evening News that Manchester City will not sell Rodri for less than their £60 million asking price. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that Rodri wants a move to Barcelona and Manchester City will reluctantly cater to Rodri’s demands if his asking price is met. It is also reported that City would rather receive a transfer fee for a player who wants to leave the club rather than lose Rodri for free next summer. Manchester City intends to reinvest the money they receive for Rodri into Enzo Maresca’s squad.

City will not sell Rodri cheaply, so the ball now sits in Barcelona’s court.

All summer it has seemed that there was a good chance that Rodri would leave Manchester City. His performances at the World Cup, where he captained Spain to their second World Cup triumph, have ramped up the interest of Real Madrid and Barcelona in signing Manchester City’s midfield general. It now seems increasingly likely that Rodri will return to Spain. But for that to occur, Barcelona have to get serious in their bid to sign Rodri.

Manchester City owe Rodri and Barcelona nothing. They won’t do either party any favours in the transfer market. City have set their asking price for Rodri. Barcelona’s opening offer for Rodri is woefully inadequate. The La Liga giants have to come to the party to sign Rodri. They won’t get Rodri on the cheap. Manchester City won’t accept such an offer. So it is now up to Barcelona to meet Manchester City’s demands for Rodri. It does seem like Barcelona will come to that party eventually. The sooner they do the better for all parties concerned.

Barcelona’s opening bid to sign Rodri has been rejected by Manchester City. City are reluctantly willing to sell Rodri this summer. Their asking price must be met. However, you do feel that it will be. It now looks like Rodri has played his last game for Manchester City, provided that Barcelona pay up to sign him this summer.
