In addition to the fringe players that were in their squad for the last season, FC Barcelona will also have to make decisions about the players who spent the last season on loan but who will return to their ranks this summer.
Two such players have already left the Catalan club permanently, i.e., Vitor Roque and Alex Valle. Meanwhile, Clement Lenglet also had a very good season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and he looks highly likely to remain at the capital club.
However, before this can happen, the two clubs will have to arrive at an agreement, which has so far been elusive because the Mattress Makers do not want to pay anything in transfer fee for the player.
According to the latest update from Mundo Deportivo in this regard, Barcelona are negotiating a contract termination with the French defender, as Atletico Madrid have clearly told him that they cannot assume his salary for another year on loan, and his continuity with them depends on his contract termination and him joining their team for free.
The Colchoneros are already trying to sign new players for the centre-back position, and they are not pursuing the Frenchman with as much of a priority as they previously were. Still, they are keen to have the defender, but do not want to pay a transfer fee for him.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also keen to permanently part ways with Lenglet to get rid of his high wages. Thus, the centre-back will first have to reach an economic agreement with the Blaugranes regarding the salary he is due for the next season, with his yearly wages being around €16 million after his last contract renewal.
Furthermore, he will also have to take a pay cut to continue playing for Diego Simeone’s side. His high wages had already led to failure of a move for him in previous years.
All the involved parties are now keen to see these negotiations come to a successful end soon. But even if they drag on, Clement Lenglet will be able to play in the upcoming Club World Cup, as this was already agreed upon in his loan agreement.
