Barcelona haven’t had the best of weeks so far. The club’s pursuit of Nico Williams tragically broke down while the club were also handed a fine by UEFA due to FFP violations.

With the Nico deal not a possibility anymore, Barcelona are looking at reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.

One of the key problem areas for Barcelona is the right-back position, with Jules Kounde being the only real viable option.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for Denzel Dumfries recently, with the defender reportedly having a release clause of €25 million that will be valid for a few days.

Barcelona are not going after Dumfries

However, a recent report from MARCA has clarified that Barça are, in fact, not considering making a move for Dumfries this summer.

The report points out that Barcelona have full faith in Kounde and his fitness. The Frenchman, therefore, will continue to remain the club’s first-choice option at right-back.

Moreover, Hansi Flick has faith in Kounde’s backup, Hector Fort. Even though the youngster has yet to deliver consistently, the German tactician believes he can be a force for good going forward.

Another option Flick has at his disposal is Eric Garcia, who can operate at right-back if necessary and has been a great utility for Barcelona this past season.

The Catalans, therefore, are not considering a move for a new right-back this summer, let alone Dumfries.

This is indeed a risky option considering the fact that Barça could be in trouble if Kounde picks up an injury at any point next season.

However, the summer transfer market is still long and it will be interesting to see whether or not Barcelona will eventually shift their policy in the weeks to come.
