In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona have been offered a chance to land Manchester City defender Nathan Ake. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are eyeing a move to recruit the Dutch talent next year.

Ake’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Ake has struggled to earn regular first-team starts at Man City this season but has done well to serve as a useful member of their match-day squad. The 30-year-old has featured in 13 matches for the Mancunian outfit in this campaign so far in multiple competitions.

The Dutch sensation has been a decent contributor on the defensive end of the field as he has made three tackles, one block, one interception and ten clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well after completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Etihad Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027, which could give Barcelona a chance to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.

Should Barcelona Boss Hansi Flick Go For Ake?

Ake is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and excels at playing his way out from the back.

The Dutch sensation is primarily a centre-back but can also operate as a left-back if required. Ake has got a wealth of experience at the highest level. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if the Catalan club manage to bring him on board next year.

We can expect Ake to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona boss Hansi Flick’s defence. He has what it takes to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Nou Camp in the coming years.

At 30, Ake has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Hence, Flick would be wise to go for a player of his quality this winter or at the end of this campaign.
