Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez is gathering serious momentum, as the club grow more and more desperate to bring in a new forward this coming summer.

To that end, ournalist Sique Rodriguez (h/t FCB World) has provided a fresh update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Alvarez, adding that the club are already thinking about how to structure a deal.

It appears Barcelona are ready to put Ferran Torres emerging as a potential makeweight in any agreement with Atletico Madrid.

Ferran Torres’ struggles this season

It is not difficult to see why his name has come up in this context. Torres started brightly this season, racking up 13 goals in the first half of the campaign and looking every bit like the striker Barcelona had long needed him to be.

But since the turn of the year, the wheels have come off rather dramatically. His last goal came on January 31 against Elche, and he has gone without a goal for almost two months since then.

The timing could not be worse for Torres. Barcelona are actively looking to reshape their attack, and his dip in form has only intensified speculation around his future.

He is not the only player whose name has been floated as a potential makeweight, either, as earlier reports suggested Ronald Araujo had also been considered as part of a swap package.

As for the deal itself, Sique Rodriguez reports that Barcelona’s plan involves including a player to lower the financial burden, with Torres one of the names being considered.

The club would have no objection to that arrangement. Barcelona are confident they can land Alvarez for no more than €100 million through this formula.

Torres, who has struggled badly for goals since the turn of the year, could therefore serve as the key to unlocking one of the most exciting transfers of the summer.
