Barcelona are preparing for a significant overhaul in their goalkeeping department for the 2026/27 season behind current first-choice Joan Garcia.
According to a recent report from SPORT, the club’s sporting structure is already evaluating several scenarios as uncertainty surrounds almost every backup option.
One of the most notable developments is the expected departure of Wojciech Szczęsny.
The experienced goalkeeper, who has taken on a more mentoring role within the squad, is unlikely to continue beyond this season.
His reduced on-field involvement and increasing focus on leadership suggest that his time at the club may be coming to an end.
At the same time, Barcelona are actively exploring the market for a reliable second-choice and a high-level competitor.
One name that has emerged prominently is Alex Remiro, currently at Real Sociedad.
As such, the situation becomes even more complex when considering the number of goalkeepers currently out on loan.

Inaki Pena, Ander Astralaga, and Aron Yaakobishvili are all gaining experience away from Camp Nou, but none appear guaranteed a place in the first team next season.
Astralaga, currently at Granada, has struggled for minutes and is dealing with injury issues, making a permanent exit increasingly likely.
Yaakobishvili, on loan at Andorra, remains a player Barcelona want to monitor closely, but another loan or a transfer with a buy-back clause seems the most realistic path.
Meanwhile, Diego Kochen is emerging as one of La Masia’s brightest prospects.
Currently balancing duties between the first team and Barça Atletic, he is highly rated but not yet seen as ready to serve as immediate backup to Joan Garcia.
A loan move could accelerate his development, although the final decision will depend on how the transfer market unfolds.
As for Pena, despite having three years remaining on his contract, his future remains uncertain.
This means another loan is being considered, but Barcelona would prefer a permanent solution if possible.
