FC Barcelona suffered their second La Liga defeat of the season last weekend as they fell to a 2-1 loss to arch-rivals Real Madrid.
Losing the first El Clasico of the season at the Santiago Bernabeu meant that Barça are now five points behind Xabi Alonso’s team in the league standings.
The result was a setback for Hansi Flick & co., without a doubt, but it can serve as a huge motivation for the team for the future, especially given the Real Madrid players’ antics close to and after the full-time whistle.
In fact, according to Javi Miguel on Catalunya Radio, one of the heavyweights of the Barcelona dressing room addressed the players after the loss and made it clear that it was the only victory Real Madrid were going to taste against them this season.
“Let them enjoy it, it will be the only game they will beat us this season,” was the message from the unnamed senior leaders of the team.
The Barcelona players could hear the celebrations from the Real Madrid locker room – all the laughing, signing, and shouting, and it only served as fuel to motivate the team further.

The general feeling within the Barça squad was that they had not entered the Clasico in the best condition and were dealing with fatigue, while the absences did not help either.
Furthermore, the Barcelona players did not feel that they were inferior to their opposition, and that they could have come away with a draw after having kept fighting until the end.
This was unlike the loss against PSG earlier in the month, where the Blaugrana stars admitted feeling that Luis Enrique’s men were superior to them in some stages of the match.
Barcelona will host Real Madrid at the Spotify Camp Nou in May next year in La Liga and will be eagerly waiting for that match-up.
Meanwhile, the two teams could end up facing each other before that in the Spanish Super Cup final in January, if they win their respective semi-finals.
