The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have been forced to push back plans for the contract extension of a member of the club’s attacking ranks.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Ferran Torres as the player in question.
Frontman Ferran was for his part of course forced to sit out the final weeks of Barcelona’s triumphant 2024/25 campaign.
This came after the former Manchester City man was forced to undergo emergency surgery for a case of appendicitis.
Prior to as much, though, Ferran had enjoyed a thoroughly productive year, pushing Robert Lewandowski for a starting berth courtesy of an impressive haul of 19 goals and seven assists.
And though as things stand he remains 2nd-choice behind Lewandowski, the Spanish international features prominently in the plans of Hansi Flick and co. for the seasons ahead.
So much so that, according to MD, talks over a contract extension for Ferran have been ongoing for some time now.
The intention of Deco and co. is to extend the 25-year-old’s terms from their current expiration in 2027, through the summer of 2030.
As alluded to above, however, for the time being, Ferran will be forced to wait for as much.
As per a report from MD:
‘The intention is to renew his contract, although it has been postponed until later. Although there are ongoing talks, the intention is to negotiate an extension, but it will only happen once the summer transfer window closes, according to club sources. Barça’s financial situation doesn’t encourage negotiations.’
