Barcelona preparing another loan move for academy gem despite strong progress | OneFootball

Barcelona have reached a clear decision regarding the future of one of the most highly-rated goalkeepers in their academy system.

According to SPORT journalist Carlos Monfort, Aron Yaakobishvili is expected to spend another season away from the club on loan as Barcelona continue to carefully manage his development. 

Despite being pleased with the progress he has made over the past year, the club believes the young goalkeeper still requires regular first-team football before he can seriously challenge for a place at Camp Nou.

It must bed noted that the goalkeeper spent the previous campaign with FC Andorra, gaining valuable experience in professional football after years of development within Barcelona’s academy system.

The move was viewed as an important step in his progression, exposing him to a more demanding environment and allowing him to experience the pressures that come with senior football.

Within the club, there is a certain degree of satisfaction with how the loan unfolded, as Yaakobishvili showed encouraging signs throughout the season and continued to develop many of the qualities that made him such a highly-rated prospect in the first place.

However, Barcelona also recognise that there is still work to be done, and one of the main conclusions from the season was that the goalkeeper did not fully establish himself as the undisputed first-choice option at Andorra. 

While he gained important experience, the club believes he would benefit from another campaign where he can play consistently and take on greater responsibility.

As a result, Barcelona’s sporting department is now exploring options that would allow him to continue his growth in a competitive setting.

As such, the decision to pursue another loan is not a reflection of any doubts regarding the player’s ability. In fact, quite the opposite appears to be true.

Within Barcelona, Yaakobishvili continues to be viewed as one of the most promising goalkeepers produced by the academy in recent years, and they are convinced that he has the potential to compete at a very high level in the future.

However, considering the current goalkeeping situation at the club, it would be best for him to spend another season away.
