Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez has taken an intriguing turn after fresh reports suggested the Argentine has grown increasingly frustrated with Atletico Madrid over what he believes is a broken promise regarding his future.

The latest Barcelona transfer news has handed the Catalan club renewed encouragement as they continue searching for a marquee addition in attack.

According to SPORT, Alvarez is unhappy with Atletico’s recent stance after feeling he was previously assured that a move would be possible under the right circumstances.

With Barcelona still viewing the World Cup winner as their preferred attacking reinforcement, the Julian Alvarez transfer saga remains one of the biggest stories of the Barcelona summer transfer window.

Atletico’s public denial

The report claims the disagreement dates back to conversations held earlier this year between Alvarez and Atletico Madrid’s hierarchy.

It is believed Miguel Angel Gil Marin indicated in February that the club would be prepared to consider his departure if a proposal arrived that matched the valuation Barcelona had previously discussed.

That understanding gave the Argentine confidence to publicly speak about fulfilling one of his career ambitions, comments that were interpreted within Barcelona as a positive sign in the pursuit of their priority target.

The situation has since changed.

Gil Marin recently insisted that Alvarez remains the perfect striker for Atletico Madrid and revealed that the club’s position had already been communicated to the player, his representatives and Barcelona

According to SPORT, those remarks have left the forward feeling that the agreement reached months ago is no longer being respected.

The report adds that once Argentina’s World Cup campaign concludes, Alvarez could once again make his position clear publicly if his future at Atletico Madrid remains unresolved.

Despite the growing tension between the player and Atletico Madrid, Barcelona have remained consistent with their approach throughout the negotiations.

Joan Laporta has repeatedly stressed that the club’s €100 million proposal is the only offer on the table.

As things stand, Barcelona’s €100 million offer remains unchanged, and there are no plans to submit an improved bid, even as speculation surrounding Julian Alvarez to Barcelona continues to dominate headlines.

The Blaugrana are also determined not to engage in a public dispute with Atletico Madrid.

Instead, Barcelona believe the next step depends on whether the player succeeds in pushing for the move he wants rather than the club attempting to reopen negotiations.
