In a season that saw Barcelona dominate Spanish football and secure a domestic treble, Marc Bernal’s injury was one of the few unexpected tragedies.
Starting the season with zest and promise, Bernal was expected to become the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets.
However, a long-term injury completely stalled his progress and ruled him out for the entirety of the campaign. But as Barcelona prepare for the summer ahead, it appears Bernal is once again starting to regain his full fitness.
A recent report from AS has given a comprehensive update on Marc Bernal’s fitness, revealing that the young midfielder has been working extremely hard at Ciutat Esportiva in recent days.
While other players are enjoying training, Bernal has been trying to get back to full fitness as soon as possible – a commitment that has prompted Barcelona to renew his contract.

The report further reveals that Bernai will have a three-week vacation starting tomorrow. He is expected to report back for training on July 1.
Once he reports back to training, the program to reinstate Bernal into Hansi Flick’s tactical setup will begin.
If everything goes well, the youngster might even get to be a part of Barcelona’s pre-season tours and even play in the Joan Gamper trophy final, which is scheduled for early August.
However, the report does indicate that Bernal might not return to full fitness until September or October, meaning Barcelona must proceed with caution until then.
Bernal, for his part, will be determined to make an impression and return to the fold as soon as possible. But given his long injury, Barcelona are unlikely to take any risks with his fitness this summer.
