Two weeks away from the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, Lamine Yamal continues to showcase why he is in contention to win the golden orb this summer.

The 18-year-old Barcelona sensation is seen as one of the top contenders for the prize, along with PSG superstar Ousmane Dembele.

Voting for the Ballon d’Or has already closed, and on 22 September, Lamine will learn whether he will become the youngest-ever recipient of the prestigious honour.

Lamine Yamal on fire in the new season

Irrespective of what happens in Paris in two weeks, what is certain is that Lamine, despite his tender age, has firmly established himself as one of the best in the game currently.

After an excellent campaign in 2024/25, when he helped Barcelona win the domestic treble, and lifted the UEFA Nations League with Spain, the teenage sensation has started the new season on fire.

In the five matches he has played so far for club and country in 2025/26, Lamine has either scored or assisted in every one.

For Barça, the La Masia gem has two goals and two assists in three appearances, while on international duty, he added three more assists in two games with Spain. That leaves him with a tally of two goals and five assists from five games.

Going back a bit further, the Barcelona prodigy has five goals and six assists from his previous 11 appearances for club and country.

While his latest performances no longer count towards the Ballon d’Or award, Lamine is going through one of the finest spells of his young career, showcasing why he is in the conversation for the biggest individual prize in football.

Lamine is already the player to win the most Man of the Match awards in Europe’s top five leagues since the start of the 2024/25 season. And, if his red-hot form at the start of the new campaign is anything to go by, he has no plans of slowing down.
