A major update on the future of Barcelona star Wojciech Szczesny has this weekend been forthcoming online.

Szczęsny, for his part, has of course spent the last couple of months establishing himself as the new no.1 in Barcelona’s squad.

Brought in following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the Pole has done a stellar job of displacing Iñaki Peña as Hansi Flick’s first-choice option between the posts.

So impressive has Szczęsny looked, in fact, that rumours have long begun to mount that the Camp Nou brass are ready to offer him a new contract.

The former Arsenal and Juventus man’s current Blaugrana terms are due to expire in the summer.

And if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, then a renewal for the 34-year-old now looks closer than ever to coming to fruition.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:

‘The verbal agreement between Wojciech Szczesny and Barça over new contract is almost done. Small details to be sorted with Szczesny’s final green light and then he will put pen to paper to a deal valid until June 2026.’
