In that context, according to La Vanguardia, Barcelona have already agreed the framework of a five-year contract with Alvarez.

It must be remembered that Barcelona sporting director Deco has already held talks with the striker’s representatives, with both parties reaching an understanding regarding the terms of a long-term deal.

The proposed agreement would keep the Argentine at Spotify Camp Nou for the next five years if a transfer can eventually be completed.

Supporting Barcelona’s interest are the recent comments from the forward, which left little doubt about his intentions.

Within the club, there is growing confidence that they have already convinced the player, and the next challenge lies in convincing Atletico Madrid.

Atlético Madrid refuse to negotiate

Barcelona’s biggest problem remains Atletico’s refusal to entertain discussions.

The Catalan side previously submitted a proposal worth close to €100 million, but the offer failed to generate a formal response and since then, relations between the two clubs have become increasingly tense.

Now, after his public statements, Barcelona’s leadership have established a clear financial limit for the operation.

The outlet assures that the club is unwilling to exceed €120 million in guaranteed payments, although the overall package could rise to approximately €130 million through performance-related bonuses and add-ons.

For Atletico Madrid, however, they continue to insist that Alvarez is not for sale and repeatedly point towards the €500 million release clause included in his contract.

While contractual obligations certainly give Atletico Madrid the upper hand, player’s desire to move will eventually force them to negotiate with Barcelona.
