Barcelona are not backing away from their pursuit of Julian Alvarez, with the club convinced that the Argentine forward is the right profile to lead their attack moving forward.

It is known that the need for a top-level centre-forward has become a priority within the sporting structure.

Barcelona are actively planning to reinforce the attacking line, and within the club’s offices, Alvarez is already being viewed as a key target rather than just another option.

Despite the scale of the operation, Barcelona intend to push for the deal until the very end of the transfer window, according to a report from SPORT.

Not a simple operation

At present, the main obstacle is Atletico Madrid, who are under no pressure to sell.

The Spanish capital club side are holding out for a fee in the region of €120 million and are not open to negotiations that would significantly reduce that valuation.

They are also reluctant to accept player exchanges as part of the deal, which further complicates Barcelona’s position.

On Barcelona’s side, the situation is equally complex, as financial limitations remain a major factor, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding La Liga’s 1:1 rule.

The club will need to generate revenue through player sales and carefully manage wages to even consider a move of this magnitude.

So what now?

In this situation, the most decisive factor in this operation is not financial – it is the player himself.

Barcelona’s strategy is to rely on Alvarez to take the initiative. The club believes that if the forward expresses a clear desire to leave and prioritises a transfer, it could shift the dynamics of the negotiation.

There is already an understanding that the Argentine would be open to a change of environment, but Atletico will only reconsider their position if that desire becomes explicit and unavoidable.

Until that happens, both clubs remain at a standstill.
