Barcelona have decided to move to secure the futures of both Marcus Rashford and Joao Cancelo beyond their current loan spells, according to fresh reports from Mundo Deportivo.

Manager Hansi Flick is said to be extremely satisfied with the impact both players have made, and the club’s sporting department now considers their continuity an important objective heading into next season.

In Rashford’s case, the feeling inside Barcelona is very positive.

In fact, the English forward has adapted well and has impressed the coaching staff with both his performances and attitude. The report adds that the player himself is fully committed to continuing at the club.

Two options on the table

As such, Barcelona are currently studying two possible formulas to keep the Manchester United attacker.

The first option involves a permanent transfer worth around €30 million, but structured in instalments.

Barça’s idea would be to pay €10 million annually over three years while also handing Rashford a long-term five-year contract.

The club believes signing a player with Rashford’s experience and attacking quality for €30 million would represent one of the smartest market opportunities available.

The second option would involve negotiating another loan agreement with Manchester United.

However, the Premier League side are currently not keen on extending another temporary deal and would rather resolve the player’s future permanently.

What about Cancelo?

As far as Cancelo is concerned, his situation remains slightly more complicated.

The Portuguese full-back is currently on loan from Al Hilal, but unlike some modern loan agreements, there is no purchase clause included in the deal.

That means Barcelona must negotiate directly with the Saudi club if they want the defender to remain at Camp Nou.

Notably, the Portuguese international has completely transformed the left side of Barcelona’s defence with his attacking movement, technical quality, and experience at elite level.

His two goals and three assists only tell part of the story, because his overall influence on build-up play and attacking structure has been massive.

With just one year left on Cancelo’s contract in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona believe there is still room to reach an agreement.

The club now appear ready to push hard on both operations as they attempt to avoid losing two players who have become increasingly important to the project.
