Brazilian football continues to churn out talented young footballers one after the other, and several top clubs across Europe, including FC Barcelona, are always alert to the next up-and-coming youngster making his name in the South American nation.
One such player who has seemingly caught the attention of Barça and other European giants is Palmeiras defender Luiz Benedetti.
Now, according to reports relayed by AS, Barcelona are already prepared to offer €12 million to sign Benedetti immediately. However, Palmeiras would demand at least €15 million for the 19-year-old prodigy.
Benedetti’s rise to prominence in Brazilian youth football has been evident for some time. With Palmeiras, he has captained both the U-17 and U-20 teams before making his professional debut earlier this January.
Although he has not yet enjoyed significant playing time under Abel Ferreira, this has not stopped clubs such as Barcelona, as well as Arsenal, from showing interest in him.
At 19 years of age and 197 centimetres tall, Benedetti possesses the attributes required to lead the defensive line. He is dominant in the air, has very good ball-playing abilities, and is quick on his feet as well.
Benedetti happens to be a left-footed centre-back – a profile that Barcelona are particularly looking for following the surprise departure of Inigo Martinez in the summer. As such, they are prepared to shell out €12 million for him.
The 19-year-old defender will remain at Palmeiras until January, at which point his future will become clear. While Palmeiras would ideally prefer to hold on to the youngster, if Barcelona, Arsenal, or any other big club from Europe come calling, a sale cannot be ruled out.
